Nifty Year

Posted by Just-a-ng-dummy - December 27th, 2021

It was a good year for me, some bumps on the road though, but overall pretty good

It's been about 6 months since I created my newgrounds account and I've got to engage with a cool af community

I always thought I would just be the guy who just stalks around newgrounds and playing games, but look at me now with 400+ fans! I wanna try a trip down memory lane and tell some stuff that got me into NG and making my own games

Back when I was browsing yt near the end of 2020 I stumbled upon the fnf promo uploaded by newgrounds. It was an interesting premise and I got hooked in. I had a fun time playing it! This version was pretty old like, before week 3 even came out. Too bad I didn't create a newgrounds account after that playthrough haha. I still played a couple of Newgrounds games from time to time like Contact Rush, Ugby Mamba 3, and Mad Sisters' Week Off.

Few months passed and saw bbpanzu juggling music art and coding on that fnf shit like wtf?! After seeing him doing this shit I wanted to try out coding for myself. So I picked an engine called "Godot" and looked up some tutorials. This tutorial series really helped out a lot on the basics of this stuff. I proceeded to make a buggy shit wrenched platformer that got to absolutely no where. I eventually stopped working on it and started to make a new game called "Ring Ring Bang." I was able to complete making it and decided to publish it on Newgrounds! (Btw the game is not the best don't play it pls)

But that didnt stop me from making my next game "Soup in the Cosmos." It was slightly better than Ring Ring Bang but it was still shit!!!

Around this time the "Egg Jam 2021" was announced and I wanna participate on that shit! And so I started working on "Egg in the Cosmos." It was my first ever game to get frontpaged and win a daily position! I didn't win the contest of course but I was still glad it got a decent amount of attention!

During August I visited the NGP discord server and it was neat. I got to meet a lot of cool people there and interacted with the community more! I made some new games here and there just doing what I normally do. Then the "List jam" was announced and of course I wanted to get some piece of that jam action again. I worked up a game with only one button and monochome colors. RemoCon reached out to me to make music for the game and I accepted it. I was finally able to finish the game now known as "Archery Run." It is currently my most popular game and people are still playing it wtf!

Then it was a rocky road ahead of me as I didn't really have the passion to make games when I used to. I didn't feel like it was worth it. I still like making games but I just don't have the same excitement I had. My old games were shit but making them were very fond. But it's fine now, I have a promising game idea in my mind that I really want to flesh out!

And after all that, here I am now with over 400 fans! All of you guys are super swag and I'm glad I was able to meet a handful of you guys :D

Here is a playlist for stuff I made/ was involved in that I loved: The Dum's Favorites of 2021
